Tokio Marine HCC International names Thibaud Hervy as CEO and Simon Button as CUO

Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI), the London-based subsidiary of insurance group Tokio Marine HCC, has announced a leadership transition as Thibaud Hervy steps into the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), subject to regulatory approval.

Hervy previously held the position of Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for Specialty Lines.

At the same time, Simon Button has been promoted to CUO of TMHCCI, succeeding Hervy.

These appointments follow the recent transition of long-serving CEO Barry Cook to the role of Deputy CEO at Tokio Marine HCC.

Cook with over 20 years at the helm of TMHCCI, will now focus on his broader responsibilities within the group.

Hervy brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having joined the business in 1999 as an underwriter in HCC Global’s Financial Lines team.

Over the years, he has held several senior positions and played a central role in developing the company’s global underwriting approach. He was named Managing Director of HCC Global in 2010 and later became CUO – Specialty Lines at TMHCCI in 2014, where he was instrumental in shaping the firm’s long-term underwriting and distribution strategies.

Button, who now takes over as CUO of TMHCCI, has been with the company since 2000. He has held leadership positions across several underwriting divisions, including Property, Marine, and Energy. In his expanded role, Button will oversee the company’s overall underwriting strategy as TMHCCI continues to broaden its portfolio and strengthen its position in the market.

Together, Hervy and Button will lead TMHCCI through its next phase of growth, building on its reputation for underwriting discipline and international reach.

“Barry’s impact on our international business cannot be overstated. When he took the helm in 2005, TMHCCI was a small player in London. Today, Barry leaves it a $2.8 billion market leader with an excellent track record of success over decades. He has been instrumental in building a business which continues to set new standards and achieve exceptional results,” commented Susan Rivera, TMHCC’s CEO.

“I am delighted to be working even more closely with Barry in his new role, and in Thibaud, we have the ideal candidate to carry on his legacy. As we embark on an exciting new chapter, Thibaud will spearhead our international growth and the expansion of our product suite.”

Rivera added: “I am also delighted to announce Simon’s appointment as CUO of our International business. The risk landscape and the needs of our insureds are evolving. Key challenges such as the global transition to more sustainable practices also present significant business opportunities. Thibaud and Simon’s expertise will be core to the new offerings we are developing and to achieving new heights of excellence in service and innovation for our clients.”

Cook said: “I am proud to pass the baton of leadership of TMHCCI to Thibaud and Simon. I have had the pleasure of working with them for decades, and their vision and expertise continue to impress. I am certain that TMHCCI will continue to go from strength to strength under their management.”
